The Inpiration for

Seligman, Arizona: Birthplace of HISTORIC Route 66

In 2025, I celebrated my 20th anniversary of living on Route 66 in Seligman, Arizona and my fourteenth year having the privilege of working for the incomparable Angel V. Delgadillo, the man known as the Mayor of the Mother Road and the Angel of Route 66.  Because of Angel and his grassroots organization that brought Route 66 back from the dead and saved Seligman from becoming a ghost town Seligman has been featured in hundreds, if not thousands, of articles and documentaries around the world.  But, despite this claim to fame, the history of the town of Seligman has been slowly but surely getting lost and forgotten due to the fact that it is very small and has limited resources.

The one and only history book previously written about Seligman itself was written in 1986 for Seligman’s centennial. I had long thought about writing a Seligman history book and with the centennial of Route 66 coming in 2026, I finally decided to take a break from writing my cozy mystery series and try my hand at it.

I spent the majority of 2025 spending all of my free time scouring the town for old pictures, documents, and  information while at the same time editing, polishing, and learning how to format a picture-centric history book. It was an intensive labor of love!

I am very proud to have finished this book focusing on Seligman’s Route 66 and piece together the history of the town and the road that I have called home for the last twenty years. I truly believe that this book has saved valuable knowledge that would have soon been lost and forgotten.

Thank you for your interest in history, travel, and unique American stories. Your curiosity and appreciation for historical narratives of small towns help keep these stories alive for future generations.
